The Urban Assembly Academy for Careers in Sports infuses education with the energy and enthusiasm that sports inspire in many youth. The school enhances its rigorous core curriculum with insights from athletics—how historical advances in sports, for instance, have reflected the progress of the civil rights and women’s movements, or how athletic excellence illuminates and tests the limits of human physiology. ACS instills in students the ambition, the discipline and the skills to succeed in sports-related careers such as marketing, management, law, medicine, journalism and broadcasting.

When the Academy for Careers in Sports opened in 2002, only 18% of its freshmen performed at grade level in math. By the end of their sophomore year, 99% of students had passed the Math A Regents. In June of 2005, ACS administered the Math A Regents for the first time to its freshmen. Ninety-eight percent of them passed, compared to 81% citywide.
Ninth-graders at ACS take U.S. History and the U.S. History Regents exam, which most high schools offer juniors two years later.
ACS students can earn free college credits through the College Now Program at Hostos and Bronx Community Colleges.
