In 2008, AMS was recognized in New York City's Best Public Middle Schools, Third Edition (Clara Hemphill, Teacher College Press), as a school "quickly building a reputation for its high academic standards, stellar attendance rates, and noteworthy student achievement."
AMS has consistently posted among the highest middle school math achivement scores in Region 1 of the Bronx.
AMS has maintained a 95% attendance rate every year since its opening in 2004.
Since 2006, AMS has hosted The Bronx Invitational Math Tournament, a day-long math competition that annually draws hundreds of middle school students from every borough of New York City.
In 2008, AMS created a 16-week elective in collaboration with The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum (an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution) in which students found design solutions to improve the school and surrounding community.
AMS is currently developing a comprehensive high school program that will prepare students to produce high-quality science research and effectively communicate their methodology and experimental data.
