The UA Bronx Studio School for Writers and Artists (BSSWA) is a thoughtful, self-critical, and highly
dedicated community of teachers, artists, committed to cultivating a generation of scholar-activists-globally-minded,
readers and writers committed to lifelong learning, personal wellness, the protection of human rights, the empowerment of local
communities, and the preservation of the Earth. Students at BSSWA are deeply immersed in a highly personalized, literacy-rich, project-based learning environment that
prepares every student to write persuasively, read and think critically, and speak clearly and informatively on a broad
range of subjects. We regard Art as a fundamental literacy each student should refine and develop so that she or he may
better decipher, negotiate, and enrich our complex world.

Members of our first two graduating eighth grade classes were accepted to specialized and highly competitive
examination and audition schools including Brooklyn Latin, Bard Early College High School, Professional Performing
Arts High School, and Art & Design HS.
Sixteen BSSWA student ambassadors participated in a week-long international immersion program in Spain in the summers
of 2007 and 2008.
Our school community will relocate to a new state-of-the-art $55 million educational facility on Simpson Street
(Bronx, NY) in September 2009.
Our daily attendance rate has met or exceeded 90% each year since our founding in September 2004.
