UA Homecoming Benefit Celebration
On Monday, October 5th, The Urban Assembly hosted its  first  benefit, which raised over $235K in support of our community of 22 schools! Held in the gym of  Martin Luther King, Jr. high school, the evening was both meaningful and memorable. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Chancellor Joel Klein joined us and spoke of their support of The Urban Assembly's work.  Who would have thought that basketball hoops and bleachers  could look so good?

The UA welcomed approximately 375 guests, including 50 students and alumni and just about all of our principals and staff members as well as several mentors and partners. Student speakers were Ashley Charles of The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School and Jonathan Ortiz, alumnus of the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice.  Entertainment included The Urban Assembly School of Music and Art jazz trio, step teams from The Urban Assembly New York Harbor School and The Urban Assembly Academy of History and Citizenship, as well as vocalists Fia Davis and Amanda Miller and dancers from The Urban Assembly School of the Performing Arts.  Auctioneer Meisha Ross Porter reminded guests of the exciting silent auction items available, ranging from tickets to The Daily Show to a Yankees vs. Red Sox package to a tour of the Croton Filtration Plant.  Guests were given high school classic books and UA bookmarks as party favors.

The Urban Assembly gratefully acknowledges its Board of Directors, Junior Advisory Committee and Homecoming Committee for making the event the success it was!
