The rigorous learning environment of the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law ensures college readiness and promotes lifelong learning, a commitment to public service, and the effective exercise of civic leadership. Its focus on government and law provides a framework for developing the reading and writing skills and the critical thinking and logical reasoning that students need to succeed in college and life.

After only one year at AGL, 41 students passed the Math A Regents exam on their first try.
In 2006, AGL students participated in the national Junior Statesmen of America Summer Program free of charge, thanks to support from AGL's partner law firm, Heller Ehrman.
AGL planned and hosted the first annual Girls' Congress in concert with the Lower East Side Girls Club.
