“It has been a great joy to watch the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women evolve from a concept to a successful institution promoting academic and personal development among young women. If the young women I have met reflect the entire student body, the UASBYW has gone a long way toward fulfilling the vision of excellence that spawned its development. This is a lesson in education from which everyone can learn.”
—Steven R. Malin, Federal Reserve Bank of New York, partner to UASBYW

A school partnership is flexible and varies with the needs and capabilities of individual schools and partner organizations. Representatives of the partner and the school jointly discuss and determine the specifics of all partnership activities.
These might include:
  • serving as a field trip destination
  • participating in a speaker series
  • developing curriculum alongside teachers
  • adopting an advisory class
  • participating in a theme-based workshop or class
  • participating in the school’s mentorship or internship program
“Working with the Urban Assembly Media High School has been very rewarding for our International Film Festival High School Program and, most importantly, for the incredible students who make the school so special. We look forward to continuing our efforts to broaden their understanding of human rights and their involvement in advocating for change.”
—Jennifer Nebalsky, Human Rights Watch, partner to UAM

Additional possibilities for engaging with a school include:
  • Tutoring students
  • Performing community service with students
  • Providing professional development opportunities for teachers
  • Providing job shadowing opportunities for students
  • Advising students on their portfolios
  • Attending a school activity or exhibit
  • Participating in an extracurricular activity
  • Providing equipment or supplies to a school
  • Making a college visit with students
  • Speaking at a student assembly, career day or workshop
Large or highly specialized organizations can serve as partners to the Urban Assembly’s entire network of schools by participating in centralized efforts to meet school needs. These include our network-wide mentorship and internship programs and special programs and resources for Urban Assembly schools and students. Large organizations can support our mentorship program by recruiting interested employees who advise students in various schools. Specialized organizations offering access to key resources or student enrichment opportunities might develop relationships with a number of interested schools, sometimes collaborating with them to develop unique programs.

“We are very much looking forward to working with the Urban Assembly schools. Our partnership is an opportunity to work with teachers to develop strong curricula that build on the strengths of Channel Thirteen/WNET's award-winning broadcasts. These materials will provide students with rich and engaging studies, and we know that teachers will benefit from our professional development opportunities.”
—Ronald Thorpe, Vice President for Education, Thirteen/WNET
