Partners are an integral part of the Urban Assembly model. By engaging students in the real world beyond the classroom, partners bring a school's theme and curriculum into vibrant focus and reinforce in students' minds the connection between career and college that is a key predictor of success in college. The aspirations that partners inspire are a powerful incentive to academic achievement.

The Urban Assembly has organized strong institutional partnerships around each school's theme and identified expert advisers in government, education, and the corporate and nonprofit sectors who enrich students' academic experience. The caliber and range of our partners are unprecedented, and so is their engagement in the daily activities of our schools. In addition to influencing students' lives and futures, partners can play an important role in designing a school and ensuring its long-term direction and sustainability.

Through meaningful interaction with partners, Urban Assembly students gain personal motivation, experience real world applications of core academic skills, and increase their familiarity with college, the workplace environment and a broad range of career options. Partners work with our schools to:

  • Integrate theme-based activity into specialized classes, core curriculum offerings, or advisories;
  • Provide regular exposure to the professional world through field trips, internships or mentoring; and
  • Provide exposure to higher education and the steps necessary to gain access to their desired career
