In 2005, every tenth-grader at SLJ passed the Math A Regents exam, most with a score of 80% or higher, while the percentage of students passing the U.S. History Regents exam far exceeded the citywide average.
By the end of tenth grade, every SLJ student visits two out-of-state colleges and completes a practice application, including an essay critiqued by a college admissions officer. Each of six partner colleges—Amherst, Bates, Bryn Mawr, Union College, University of Maine, and Wesleyan University—adopts a group of tenth-graders and works intensively with them on college preparation.
The many internships available to SLJ students include positions at the law firm of Cravath, Swain & Moore, the Vera Institute of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and Red Hook Community Justice Center.
Art and design projects by SLJ students have been showcased at the Boston Film Festival, the Museum of Modern Art, Lincoln Center, Cooper Union, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
