The Urban Assembly Academy of Civic Engagement, a college readiness school, will prepare ACE scholars to use knowledge about political and social matters in the past to take action in the future. Our scholars will understand that their involvement in the political process is central to making substantial changes in public situations which is their obligation as community members. ACE holds as its four core values: commitment, communication, collaboration, and civic responsibility. By living and learning through these values, ACE scholars will see the connections that exist between themselves and others. This perspective will affect the way they interact and make decisions in the world.

Working with New York Cares and City Year, all ACE scholars are completing a year-long Service Learning Project, which has allowed them to learn the power (and responsibility) they have to transform their communities.
During the afternoon, scholars can immerse themselves in areas of particular interest through Explorations, which include offerings such as Ctl-Alt-Del (a computer class), Racism & Culture in Film, French Connection and Art in New York City.
To accentuate the small school feeling, ACE is broken up into 3 Houses (Randall Revolutionaries, Hollywood Heroes, and Tremont Trailblazers), which allows teachers to know scholars in their Houses on a much deeper level.
ACE boasts a substantial and powerful Student Government where scholars write their own governing bylaws and work with both the Principal and the Parent-Teacher Association to pass measures of importance to all scholars.
ACE is a technology driven school, with a SmartBoard in every classroom and a laptop assigned to every teacher and scholar.
ACE Scholars are routinely recognized for their outstanding work upholding the school’s four core values whether it is through Scholar Dollars, which can be spent at special celebrations or ACE Scholar Roundtables, which bring Scholars of the Month to the offices of participating partners for a lively discussion and lunch.
