Project CAFE Uses AI to Strengthen Teacher Coaching

In this commentary, Urban Assembly CEO David Adams and Ramapo College Provost Michael Middleton describe how Project CAFE turns classroom recordings into actionable instructional feedback. The tool measures patterns such as teacher and student talk, silence, questioning and classroom language without assigning teachers an evaluative score. By automating time-intensive observation tasks, CAFE allows teachers and coaches to spend more time interpreting evidence, reflecting on practice and identifying opportunities for improvement.
