The Urban Assembly's staff is drawn from a diverse group of educators and professionals with a passion for education equity and innovation, and a deep love for children. 

The Urban Assembly School Support model is comprised of collaborative teams that provide differentiated services to school leaders, teachers and school staff including deans, partnership coordinators, and college counselors. Through this model, The Urban Assembly has created and maintains an active Professional Learning Community that builds school capacity and improves student achievement.

David is the Chief Executive Officer of The Urban Assembly. He started with the UA in 2014 as the Director of Social-Emotional Learning, where he created the Resilient Scholars Program (RSP), a unique approach to integrating SEL into curriculum and classroom practices across the UA network. RSP has grown into a national program, serving schools and districts in Los Angeles, Houston, Syracuse, and other cities. As the Senior Director of Strategy, David led the expansion of the organization into a model provider of school support, with an emphasis on innovation and equity in public education. In 2021, David received the Champion of Equity Award from the American Consortium for Equity in Education. David sits on the board of CASEL and is an author of The Educator’s Practical Guide to Emotional Intelligence, and a co-author of the textbook, Challenges to Integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Programs in Organizations. He is a Civil Affairs Officer in the Army Reserve and holds an M.Ed in Educational Psychology from Fordham University.

As Deputy Director of Career Readiness at the UA, Rachael provides coaching, training, and program management support to UA schools in order to develop or enhance their Career Pathways and CTE programs. Rachael has spent over a decade in urban education in various capacities, including teaching Pre-AP English, serving as a Grade Level Chair, and envisioning and designing a Freshman Seminar course for her district.

She also created a leadership training institute in which she coached promising upperclassmen in interpersonal communication skills, character development, conflict resolution, time management, and public speaking. Prior to joining the UA, Rachael served as a Career Coach at the Flatiron School, where she helped graduates make dramatic career pivots and land their first jobs in the tech industry. Rachael holds a BA in Business Administration and Marketing from Texas A&M University.

Ayinde is the Postsecondary Access Manager at the UA. He previously served as the Director of College Counseling with the CollegeBound Initiative at Williamsburg Prep HS, focusing on equitable counseling practices, college access and ensuring college success. He earned his BA in Sociology from Concordia University in Montreal and his MA in Educational Leadership, Politics and Advocacy from NYU in 2019. Ayinde has been working in various areas of education for over a decade. He started his career teaching a summer school Social Studies class in San Francisco for two years, and then developed an after school literacy program that used hip-hop as a medium to encourage creative writing and the exploration of identity for high school students in Montreal. He transitioned into working as a Case Manager for young people in the foster care system, but eventually returned to focusing on the higher education landscape as a college success counselor, ultimately furthering his commitment to ensuring that our young people complete their post secondary education.

As Deputy Director of SEL at the Urban Assembly Josh coaches teams at different NYC middle and high schools that implement the Resilient Scholars Program and positive school climate best practices to bolster staff ability to support the emotional health of students. He also creates/facilitates related professional development (PD) for districts and schools around the country that highlight the intersection between SEL and topics like trauma, mental health, and equity.

Josh previously served as Grade-Level Lead, Instructional Coach, Diversity Coordinator, and Dean of Students - though always with a foot in the classroom - in the Bronx and Crown Heights. He has both developed curriculum for and taught a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology elective, SEL and college readiness courses, and history courses spanning 7th-12th grades.

Josh was the recipient of the Knowledge Grant and co-created the ClearMindEd initiative to bring network-wide PD and resources related to mindfulness inclusion. He has his M.Ed in Secondary Social Studies Education from Lehman College, MSW from the NYU Silver School, 200-hour yoga teacher certification from YogaWorks, and has completed trainings related to trauma-informed teaching, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and meditation/mindfulness instruction.

Gillian has been working to improve equity in urban education for the past 15 years, and is thrilled to continue that mission as the UA's Chief of Staff. Before joining the UA as an Advancement Manager Gillian served as a high school Dean of Students in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Prior to becoming a dean, she was the school's founding English teacher, grade level leader, and English department chair. Gillian also taught Leadership and English in Charlotte, North Carolina at a CTE high school through Teach For America. As a certified facilitator of Franklin Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Gillian believes deeply in the power of empowering young people to reach their potential through development of mission-aligned habits. Gillian is a graduate of Syracuse University (BA in Public Policy and Sociology), and received her Master's degree from Relay Graduate School of Education.

Stephanie Fiorelli comes to the UA from Democracy Prep Public Schools, where she developed and launched alumni support programming for over three years. She has over ten years experience in higher education both as a teacher and adviser, and she has worked on behalf of low-income, first-generation college students in order to close the opportunity gap and drive up college graduation rates.

At the Urban Assembly, she manages the Alumni Success programming and in particular, the text messaging campaign that allows the organization to scale post-secondary support to thousands of UA graduates.

Brandon Frame is Director of Social-Emotional Learning at The Urban Assembly where he ensures that all students develop the skills, values, and attitudes necessary to anchor their success in their school, homes and the larger community. He previously served as the Director of Business Partnerships and Development at High School, Inc. in Hartford, CT. In that role, he created an award winning program called “Taking Students from the classroom to the boardroom” in which he built and strengthen partnerships and opportunities with business and higher education partners in order to extend learning outside the school walls. Brandon is also the Founder of the nationally recognized non-profit and digital media platform TheBlackManCan, Inc. and author of Define Yourself, Redefine the World: A Guided Journal of Boys and Men of Color. Brandon is a graduate of Morehouse College.

As Managing Director of School Support, Alexis coordinates and aligns supports across our programs and for all Urban Assembly schools and our partner schools. Alexis has been with the UA since 2010, starting as an Achievement Coach, then as Director of the Academics and Leadership team before moving into her current role. Before joining the UA, Alexis taught high school English as a member of the New York City Teaching Fellows. Alexis has also taught education courses at Fordham University and Bard College. She received a B.S. from Northwestern University, an MsED in English Education from Queens College, and MsEd from Bank Street in Educational Leadership in the Arts. Alexis is also a graduate of Coro’s Leadership New York program.

Amy’s team is responsible for generating the data and systems behind UA’s school support work. This team works closely with UA school support staff so that they have the right data at the right time in order to do the most impactful work with all our schools. The Operations and Data team helps keep the road to UA’s mission paved with measurable progress. Amy is instrumental in making numbers usable and even fun for our staff and schools. She has spent countless hours developing systems to manage data about NYC students and their educational journeys and considering how best to package that information for various audiences. Prior to joining the Urban Assembly in May 2015, Amy worked for over 10 years with the Options Center at Goddard Riverside Community Center, a program providing college access & success counseling to students and professional development to college counselors and advisors. Amy also sat on the advisory board that developed nyccollegeline.org, a resource for New Yorkers with questions about college. She earned a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a Certificate in American Sign Language Interpretation from CUNY LaGuardia Community College.

James serves as the UA's School Support Data Manager. In this role, he strengthens the organization's data-informed culture through collaboration with program staff, and works with various data sources to help program staff monitor their impact and improve their programs. Prior to joining UA, he served as Data Analyst at Community Housing Partnership, working to help homeless individuals secure housing and become self-sufficient. James received a Master of Public Administration degree from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University and a B.S. in Marketing from San Francisco State University.

A native of the Bahamas, Kandra received an undergraduate degree from Bard College in Annandale-on- Hudson in Psychology and Latin American and Iberian Studies. She pursued her Masters in Social Work from New York University and has been a Licensed Social Worker in the State of New York for the past six years. Kandra is in the process of obtaining a Doctorate degree from Fordham University in Social Work. Her experience spans from working with children in foster care in upstate New York, The Ali Forney center servicing LGBTQ youth experiencing homeless in New York City to providing mental health support to women and girls who are survivors of sexual trauma in the Bahamas at the Bahamas Crisis Center. Some of that experience has also been with Wediko Children Services, a non-profit based in Boston, but as a service provider and supervisor at their outpatient treatment facility in New Hampshire, focusing on behavioral interventions for adolescents experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges. Most recently her work has been with educators both in New York public schools and the Bahamas to create programs focused on the acquisition of social emotional learning skills for students in order to improve academic achievement.

Angelina Lorenzo graduated from the Urban Assembly School for Wildlife Conservation in 2014, and she earned her BS in Public Affairs from Baruch College in 2018. From 2014-2018, she participated in the UA's Bridge to College program first as a coach and then as a coordinator. In her current role, she supports UA alumni through our texting campaign, assists with the implementation of Bridge to College, and develops tools and resources that alumni and bridge coaches use to navigate their post-secondary lives.

Fabiola serves as the UA's Special Populations Program Manager. In this role, Fabiola focuses on the growth of and support for exceptional learners and English Language Learners. Prior to joining the UA, Fabiola worked at the Relay Graduate School of Education as an Instructional Fellow, at Achievement First as a middle school science teacher and curriculum developer, and as a middle-school science teacher at Hyde Leadership Charter School.

As a first-generation American college graduate and English Language Learner, Fabiola is deeply committed to closing the opportunity and achievement gaps that plague urban and rural areas due to institutionalized racism. Fabiola earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, a M.A.M in Business from Columbia College Chicago, and a M.A in General Education from Teacher U at Hunter College.
