May is #aapiheritagemonth! This month, we are celebrating and honoring people of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage, and we are starting off with Japanese American Activist Yuri Kochiyama. Yuri was born in San Pedro, California in 1921 to Japanese immigrant parents. In her early twenties, her life would change forever after President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, which forced out over 100,000 people of Japanese ancestry and imprisoned them in various camps across the United States. The time she spent wrongfully incarcerated inspired her to become an activist for AAPI rights, as well as other racial equity...
